EL.MO. case study: integrated transport security

Tailored Italian railway lines protection
case study rfi banner homepage

For sensitive areas such as stations, airports, and ports EL.MO. developed specific integrated solutions, ensuring protection for both infrastructures and travelers against fires, terrorist attacks, vandal acts and much more. Relevant case study is what EL.MO. has done for RFI, an Italian railway company.

CASE STUDY

RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) - Ferrovie dello Stato Group (www.rfi.it) has relied on EL.MO. for the installation of advanced centralized video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire detection and access control systems.

challenge

THE CHALLENGE

Protect hundreds of sites that could become easy targets for vandal and terrorist attacks along the railway lines of northern Italy and Corsica island.

critical aspects

CRITICAL ASPECTS

Electromagnetic interference generated by high-voltage elements can prevent the correct working of the devices. Other critical aspects were the vibrations caused by trains passage, and of course, the risk of vandal acts.

EL.MO. TECHNICAL SOLUTION

Thanks to its comprehensive range of solutions, EL.MO. was able to design and build a functional and versatile security system, securing the hazardous aspects of the case and implementing transport safety by integrating:

  • Video Surveillance: high-resolution fixed cameras and motorized cameras for 24H monitoring suitable to be used in places with environmental critical aspects and electromagnetic interferences.
  • Access control: controllers and proximity cards readers to prevent the access of unauthorized people to vulnerable areas (ex. technical rooms). Creation and use of specific readers compatible with RFI cards (one card both for personnel recognition and restricted areas access).
  • Intrusion detection: control units and detectors communicating to the operating centre intrusion attempts to restricted areas.
  • Fire detection: control units and analogue-addressable detectors promptly communicating to the operating centre fire outbreaks.
  • Supervision software: GLOBALPRO supervision software for centralized control.
